  • Young Adult
  • Grades 1-3

Boys and Girls: Craft your own treasure box and hide all your toys, notes and secret treasures!

Materials

  • Bucket of Bling
  • Paint Brushes Triangle Handle
  • Acrylic Paint Jars, 24 Assorted colors
  • Mini Craft Sticks
  • Craft Sticks 150 Pack
  • Wooden Box (like an old cigar box)
  • Paper Towels
  • Craft Glue

Instructions

Step 1. Gather your supplies.

Step 2.

Start by gluing Craft Sticks, in rows, to the top of the box. Try and figure out the best way to fit the sticks so that they best cover the box. We used 1 Craft Stick and 1 Mini Stick in each row for the top of the box.

Step 3.

Finish covering all sides of the box in Craft Sticks and let dry.

Step 4.

Start painting a small section of the box with the brown paint. Have a piece of paper towel ready on the side.

Step 5.

While the paint is still wet, wipe it with a paper towel. This will make the paint lighter, and let some of the wood grain from the Craft Sticks to show through. This technique will make your treasure box look old and weathered.

Step 6.

Repeat steps 4-5 to finish painting the whole box. Be sure to work in small sections. Add a little paint and then wipe with the paper towel. If you paint too large of a section, the paint will dry before you have a chance to wipe the paint.

Step 7.

Cover the top of your box with the Letter Stickers. We spelled “MY TREASURE BOX”.

Step 8.

To finish your box, cover with Acrylic Jewels. Tip: pick out your jewels before gluing them on. Lay them out on the box and make a design. We made a small sun using different sized red Jewels. Once dry, your treasure box will be ready to store your most valued possessions!
