Feel all the happy feelings this sensory rainbow craft has to offer with a little lesson on color theory!

  • Sense the Colors: This rainbow craft is more than a visual sensory activity, it’s a textural one too! Ask your students to describe how it feels to work with the foam sheets, poms, acrylic paints, and friendship thread. Which is their favorite colorful material to create with?
  • Art is a Science: Did you know the original color wheel was invented by Sir Isaac Newton?! After arranging the rainbow colors on a rotating disk, he spun it, and the colors blended so quickly that the disk reflected a white color. This proved that human eyes can only see the reflection of colors and also that the combination of all colors is white!

Artists rely on all kinds of colors to express themes and emotions in their work. Color theory teaches us about the different shades and hues that branch off from the original rainbow colors. Take a crash course on color theory with your class to identify their favorite color pallets for future craft projects!
