Instructions


Step 1. Gather your supplies.

Step 2.

Cut your Braiding Cord to 72 inches in length. Stiffen both ends by rolling it between your finger with a dab of craft glue. Allow glue to dry. This will help when threading the beads.

Step 3.

Create a lark knot on the key ring. To learn how to create a lark knot, click here. To create Row 1, thread (4) brown Pony Beads onto the left hand string. Note: We made this bead pet using a kit, but you can also create it with individual pony bead colors!

Take your right hand string and lace back through the beads from the other end.

Pull cords tight to form this row of your Monkey Bead Pet.

Step 6.

To create Row 2, thread the following through the left hand string: (1) brown, (3) tan and (1) brown bead. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to create Row 2.

To create Row 3, thread the following through the left hand string: (2)brown, (2) black and (2) brown beads. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to create Row 3. The black bead here represents the monkey’s eyes. Turn the brown beads on each end of the row so they are facing out to create the look of the monkey’s ears.

Step 8.

To create Row 4, thread the following through the left hand string: (1) brown, (2) tan and (1) brown bead. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 to create Row 4.

Step 9.

To create Row 5, thread the following through the left hand string: (3) brown beads. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 to complete Row 5.

To create Row 6, thread the following through the left hand string: (1) brown, (2) tan and (1) brown bead. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to complete Row 6.

To create Row 7, thread the following through the left hand string: (1) brown, (3) tan and (1) brown bead. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 to complete Row 7.

To create the monkey’s arm, thread (7) brown beads on the left hand string.

Step 13.

Thread the end of the left hand string back through the first 6 beads threaded, stringing from left to right.

Pull tight to create the monkey’s left arm.

Step 15.

Repeat steps 12-14 on the right hand string, making sure to thread the first 6 beads from right to left to create the mirror effect. You should now have (2) arms for your monkey bead pet.

Repeat step 11 twice to create Rows 8 and 9.

To create Row 10, repeat step 10.

We are going to create the monkey’s left leg, but will use a different threading technique to make it a fun shape. First, thread (7) brown beads on the left hand string.

Step 19.

Here is a tricky part! You will take the left hand string and thread back through specific beads, from left to right. Skip the first bead on the left, but thread through the second, skip the third, then thread through the remaining (4) beads.

Step 20.

Pull tight to create the monkey’s left leg. Repeat these steps using the left hand string and mirroring the steps from right to left to create two legs.

Step 21.

To create Row 11, thread (3) brown beads through the left hand string. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to complete this row.

Step 22.

To create the monkey’s tail, thread (1) brown bead through the left hand string then thread back through this bead with the right hand string. Repeat this process (5) times to create a tail with (6) brown pony beads. Once complete, tie the ends to secure then trim.
