Mini Hanging Planters

Spring is right around the corner and the flowers will be blooming soon! Create colorful upcycled planters using small milk cartons and cording!

Materials


  • Natural Braiding Cord
  • 3 Small Milk Cartons
  • Large Thumbtack
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun ***May Require Adult Assistance
  • Hole Punch

Instructions


Step 1. Gather your supplies.

 

Step 2.

 

Cut off the top flaps of each milk carton.

 

Step 3.

 

Cut another ¾” off of the top of each carton.

 

Step 4.

 

Using a large thumbtack, poke holes in the bottom of each carton, as shown.

 

Step 5.

 

Wrap each carton in different color cording. Put a dab of hot glue on the beginning of the cording as well as on each corner of the first row of cording.

 

Step 6.

 

When you are finished wrapping the carton in cording, secure the end with hot glue.

 

Step 7.

 

Punch 2 holes in the top center of each carton. Try and make sure they are directly across from each other.

 

Step 8.

 

Thread a piece of 6” tan cord. knotted on one end, through two corner holes on the bottom of the carton that will be the top of the hanging planter. Make sure the holes are diagonal from each other to make the cartons hang in a whimsical way.

 

Step 9.

 

Tie the ends of the cording from the top carton to the holes punched in step 7 of the second carton.

 

Step 10.

 

Repeat step 8 & 9 to attach the bottom carton.

 

Step 11.

 

Tie (1) 6” piece of tan cording to the holes in the top carton so it can hang from a tree!
