Step 2.

Draw your design lightly in pencil on a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch piece of white card stock. We drew a Christmas tree so large, that the edges and bottom of the tree are off the paper. This fills the entire paper and makes an interesting picture. Tip: Make your drawing simple and large, as you will trace it later with Glitter Glue.

Step 3.

Trace your pencil lines with the Silver Glitter Glue and set your picture aside to dry thoroughly. Tip: Squeeze the glue gently to create nice, even lines. Don’t squeeze too hard or the glitter glue will pool.

Step 4.

Once your picture is completely dry, paint your picture with Watercolor Paint. Resists are great as you can even paint over the lines you drew in the glitter glue and the paint will not stick to the glue!

Step 5.

Decorate your picture with other craft materials. For our Christmas tree, we added Gold Glitter Glue to the star on the top of the tree and added Glitter Poms as ornaments.

Step 7.

Create (3) more paintings, showing different winter or Christmas scenes. We decorated our snowman scene with Wiggly Eyes and Poms for a mouth and for the buttons.

Santa Claus Resist Painting

Step 8.

We painted a portrait of Santa and used Glitter Poms to accent his clothes.

Rudolf Resist Painting

Step 9.

We painted our Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and accented him with Glitter Poms, Wiggly Eyes and Jingle Bells.

Step 11.

Place the top of the 1st painting with the holes over the bottom of the 2nd painting and trace the holes onto the 2nd painting. This will ensure that the holes are lined up when hung.

Step 12.

Use the pencil marks as your guide and punch (2) holes in the 2nd painting. Use Glitter Sticks to attach the two paintings together. Twist to secure the shape. Repeat to hang all four paintings.

Further Discussion:

The resist method can be repeated with many other materials, such as regular craft glue, tape, or even a crayon. Tape creates wider resist designs, crayons can add color and glue provides a raised texture. use this technique to separate solid areas of color in a painting to create interest.
