Materials

  • Paint Brushes Triangle Handle
  • Craft Buttons
  • Acrylic Paint Jars, 24 Assorted colors
  • Jumbo Craft Sticks
  • Orange Foam
  • Plastic Cup
  • Paper Cup
  • Potting Soil
  • Seeds (We used Sunflower Seeds)
  • Clear Tape
  • Craft Glue
  • Scissors

Instructions

Step 1. Gather your supplies.

Step 2.

Paint the paper cup green and the jumbo wood stick yellow. Let dry.

Step 3.

Use the stickers to label your flowers on the cup. We spelled “Katie’s Sunflowers”.

Step 4.

To make decorative flowers, glue some yellow and orange craft buttons around the cup, leaving some room to add petals in the next step.

Step 5.

Paint petals around the buttons and other designs on the cup.

Step 6.

Cut a small flower shape out of the orange foam. Glue a button to the middle of the flower.

Step 7.

Glue the flower to the painted wood stick. Paint a stem and write the flower name on the stick.

Step 8.

Fill the paper cup with the potting soil and gently plant the seeds.  Add a small amount of water.

Step 9.

To finish the terrarium place the plastic cup on top. This will create a greenhouse effect and help the seeds sprout. We used a little bit clear tape to keep the top cup in place. Remove the tape when watering your seeds. When the seeds have sprouted above the lip of the paper cup, you can completely remove the terrarium lid.  Once the weather is warm, you can plant your flowers outside.
