Alien Spaceship

  • Young Adult
  • Grades 1-3

Make the science fiction world come to life with a handmade spaceship using a paper plate and cups! When the ship is complete, use other household materials to create an out of this world alien landscape!

Step 1. Gather your supplies.

Step 2.

Place 1 clear plastic cup upside down on a piece of wax paper. Using black Simply Spray® Project Paint, spray one even coat of paint on the cup. Begin and end spraying off the cup to prevent splatter. Let the paint dry approximately 30 minutes and repeat with one more coat of spray, if needed.

Step 3.

Rip and crumple newspaper or brown paper into small pieces.  Place the pieces on one of the paper plates.

Step 4.

Place the other plate on top and staple the plates together, as shown. This will be your spaceship.

Step 5.

Turn the other plastic cup upside down and place in the center of the spaceship. Trace the rim in pencil to draw a circle.

Step 6.

Paint your ship. Paint the center circle with black paint as this will be the cockpit of the spaceship.

Step 7.

To make the alien, glue (2) large neon green Poms together.

Step 8.

Glue (3) yellow Shimmer Poms to the top of the neon green Poms and glue a wiggly eye on each shimmer pom.

Step 9.

To finish your alien, wrap a neon green Fuzzy Stick around his body. Make the arms by curling the ends around a pencil.

Step 10.

Glue the alien to the black circle on the spaceship. Make the cockpit by turning the unpainted plastic cup over and placing on top of the alien. Glue to secure.

Step 12.

Glue the black painted cup from step 2, to the bottom of the ship. Finish your craft by adding acrylic jewels to the ship, and a silver Glitter Stick around the cockpit.
