Instructions

To begin, click the “template” button under the image of the project above and print the Template on a piece of card stock. If desired, cut out the acorn shape and glue to a piece of construction paper for a more finished design. Decorate the acorn as desired! Check out the below ideas listed for different age groups:

Preschool

Have preschoolers crinkle up sheets of Construction Paper then tear it into small pieces and glue to the acorn.

Early Elementary

Paint your acorn with acrylic paint to cover. Tip: use a foam dabber brush to add texture to the acorn.

Later Elementary

Coil Fuzzy Sticks between your fingers to form round, flat spirals. Glue the coils to the acorn.

There’s nothing corny about this customizable template! Fill an acorn with all kinds of fun, sensory materials!

  • Give Them Space: Templated crafts give students a specific space to mix and match all types of materials, like foam, fuzzy sticks, poms, foil, and more. How will your students fill in their space? Let them explore their senses and develop spatial awareness as they twist, squish, and stick!
  • Printable To Paintable: Need a sturdier material for your acorn craft? Use the printable template to trace onto cardboard or canvas. A stronger surface allows students to explore other crafting styles, like finger painting or tape resist art!

Whether your students are coloring, gluing, or painting, this project lets them get in touch with their art materials. How does each one feel in their hands? Do they have a favorite? A least favorite? Ask them to write out a list of adjectives to describe each one, then review as a class!
